Israel's Justice Ministry says that comatose Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will be declared permanently incapacitated on Tuesday, Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz reports.
Sharon has been in a coma for the past three months after suffering a massive stroke in January.
Hospital spokesman Ron Krumer defined Sharon's condition as "serious, but stable," a reflection that his life is not in immediate danger.
The 78-year old prime minister was declared temporarily incapacitated after the stroke and Ehud Olmert stepped in for him immediately as acting prime minister. Although, under Israeli law he can only serve in that capacity for up to 100 days before an official replacement for Sharon has to be named.
Olmert, whose Kadima party emerged as the single largest in the recently-concluded elections, has been meanwhile tasked by President Moshe Katsav to form a coalition government.
